Accreditation & Recognition
What is the counselling accredited register?
Most Counselling & Hypnotherapy courses are accredited by professional bodies such as the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society or National Hypnotherapy Society. You will be entitled to full professional membership with a large range of benefits, such as the chance to join the Royal Society for Public Health.
It’s now vital that counsellors and therapists belong to an Accredited Register recognised by the Professional Standards Authority - the same authority which oversees the General Medical Council, Nursing & Midwifery Council, and others. Chrysalis Courses are your route to this recognition, via the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society and National Hypnotherapy Society.
NHS employment routes have been updated for counsellors
The NHS has now updated their employment information, this means that the NHS will be seeking counsellors who are on an Accredited Register, below was sent from the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society:
The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society has been working hard to gain recognition within the NHS. We are pleased to tell you that very recent changes have begun to be seen, with NHS Choices already listing the society as a provider of counselling services at: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/counselling/pages/introduction.aspx - NHS Employers has now also added new content detailing the use and benefits of Accredited Registers: http://www.nhsemployers.org/your-workforce/retain-and-improve/standards-and-assurance/professional-regulation/voluntary-registers
We are very pleased to let you know that Health Education England has now amended the information on the NHS Health Careers website also to be in line with the above and to promote inclusive hiring practices, https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/psychological-therapies/counsellor
Approved centre for Prince’s Trust Qualifications
Ofqual is the Government department Office of Qualifications are the RQF framework helps you to understand qualifications that they regulate. For example, the RQF has strict requirements in terms of size and level, with the intention that awarding organisations such as the Prince's Trust provide consistency of size and level of the qualifications they can offer. By our courses being listed on the RQF (rather than just 'mapped to', or 'equivalent to'), you are assured that your Diploma course or Certificate course is truly a Diploma or Certificate meeting national standards for those awards, , and your Level of course truly meets national standards for that level.
The Prince's Trust was founded in 1976 by the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK. We find there is common purpose between our organisations, with Prince’s Trust Qualifications defining its purpose as:
- To ensure learners have every opportunity to gain formal recognition of their skills and achievements
- To develop qualifications that offer flexibility, choice, and pathways to progression
- To ensure qualifications are accessible to all and free from barriers and discrimination
- To ensure qualifications meet regulatory criteria and principles
Our courses are also accredited by the National Counselling Society (NCS). The NCS was established in 1995 and is now one of the largest and most popular organisations which supports counsellors in the UK. NCS accreditation of our courses means you can enjoy the benefits of this organisation even as a student, and upon graduation can apply for registration as an accredited member. Since 2012 the NCS has been awarded Accredited Register status after the Government announced it was to create the Accredited Voluntary Register programme under the auspices of the Professional Standards Authority. The NCS is recognised by NHS, IAPT, NHS Choices and many well known EAPs and employers, giving it’s accredited members good employment prospects in the UK.
COURSES LEADING TO OFQUAL REGULATED QUALIFICATIONS

We are an approved centre for Prince's Trust, an Ofqual approved awarding organisation. You can be confident that our courses are externally recognised.
The Prince’s Trust became an awarding organisation in 2010 and is currently recognised by the relevant qualification’s regulators in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland to design, deliver and award qualifications.
