Our Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People is a full specialist qualification which gives students a route to apply to join the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society’s specialist Children and Young People’s Therapist Accredited Register, thus enhancing employment opportunities to work in this area.
Students will focus on increasing their specialist knowledge and understanding through a combination of tutor-led theory, class discussion, reflection, practical and experiential exercises, reading lists, and comprehensive course notes, providing a varied and inspiring learning environment. This course will:
Students will be able to evaluate ethical practice when working with children and young people and manage the counselling relationship including an understanding of confidentiality, capacity and consent when working with this client group which may be different in a counselling relationship to other helping relationships e.g. teacher, family support worker.
This course is a full and comprehensive training open to qualified counsellors who are interested in working towards a specialism in this area of counselling. Students will gain 240 Guided Learning Hours which meets the training requirements for NCPS Accredited Professional Registrant PNCPS (Acc.).
From the Level 5 course students can choose to progress to a second year of study to achieve the Level 6 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People.

Successful completion of an Ofqual approved Level 4 Diploma in Counselling that enables access to a Professional Standards Authority (PSA) approved register. Students who have already completed the Chrysalis L5 Certificate in Working with Children and Young People will be exempted from component 1 of the full diploma.

Additional Fees
The King’s Trust mandatory fee of £115 is to be paid at enrolment and then again prior to the start of Year 2

Venue - Birmingham Aston University
10am-6pm one full weekend per month (Saturday and Sunday) plus weekly 6-8pm online on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays between in-person sessions at our Birmingham Aston University venue.
