In addition to being a Chrysalis Tutor, Lorraine works as a part time sessional counsellor for the NHS in North Wales and runs her own private counselling/supervision practice. Her qualifications include an MSc in Counselling, (Bangor University) a Psychology conversion degree (Australian College of Applied Psychology) and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology Advanced, GDPA (Monash University, Australia), a Counselling Supervisor qualification and an Education degree (B.Ed. Hons) from Greenwich University. She also has graduate basis for chartered membership of the British Psychological Society (MBPsS).
Lorraine was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and lived in various countries in Central and Eastern Africa until she came to the UK (on her own) aged sixteen. She has lived in ten countries over three continents and is a dual British/Australian citizen.
Lorraine’s life experience and interests inform her therapeutic practice. She is neurodivergent, with four adult children who have diverse identities, including AuDHD, ADHD, dyslexia, and trans/non-binary. This gives her direct experience of issues facing neurodivergent and trans people. Alongside this her international lived experiences and being an adult Third Culture Kid have re-enforced to her that gaining cultural understanding and being empathetic are integral to therapy.
Lorraine has a strong interest in research and a love of learning. Her therapeutic approach is integrative/eclectic and based on the needs and preferences of the client and her own competencies. This fits well with Chrysalis’s focus on Pluralistic Counselling.
