Woman seeks hypnotherapy treatment after becoming addicted to diet coke

A woman has turned to hypnotherapy treatment after she realised her severe addiction to diet coke was taking over her life.

According to dailymail.co.uk, 42-year-old mother-of-five Jakki Ballan says she became addicted to the fizzy drink after trying it when she was 14. At one point, her obsession was so bad was drinking three cans of diet coke every hour, meaning she was consuming 50 cans a day.

Mrs Ballan started to experience hallucinations as a result of having so much of the drink. It wasn't just her mental health that was affected though, her wallet began to take the strain too, as she was spending £500 a month on diet coke alone, reports irishmirror.ie.

Although she is now receiving treatment for her illness, Mrs Ballan still has some way to go to weaning herself off the stuff because she panics if there's no diet coke nearby.

"This addiction is taking over my life," she says. "I can't even go out of the house without making sure I've got enough coke on me. I won't do the school run unless I have at least two 500ml bottles in my handbag.

"I am constantly tired, but all the caffeine I consume means I have trouble sleeping. So I end up sitting awake at night and drinking even more coke. It's a vicious cycle I can't seem to get out of."

She added that her general practitioner (GP) hasn't taken her condition seriously and states that if alcoholics get help, she should too.
