Lady Gaga opens up about her struggle with addiction and depression
Pop star Lady Gaga has opened about her addiction to marijuana, explaining that she misused the drug to cope with physical pain and depression.
According to entertainmentwise.com, the star injured herself earlier this year, causing her to undergo surgery on her hip and cancel the remaining dates of her 'Born This Way Ball' tour. During the recovery period, Lady Gaga turned to marijuana to cope with the pain but soon became addicted to the drug.
"I have been addicted to it and it's ultimately related to anxiety coping and it's a form of self-medication and I was smoking up to 15-20 marijuana cigarettes a day with no tobacco," she explained. "I didn't know where the pain was coming from so I was just in a lot of pain and very depressed all the time and not really sure why."
She noted that she has suffered from various addictions in the past and that she often feels a huge amount of pressure to always put on a smiling face because of how famous she is, reports digitalspy.co.uk.
The 27-year-old also said she still relies on the drug but hopes she can kick the habit in the future, in order to be a good example to fans, as well as doing it for herself.
