This course is the first year of our full 2 Year Level 6 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, which you can read about below.

This first part of the 2 year training is open to qualified counsellors who are interested in working towards becoming a specialist Children and Young Person’s counsellor. To enrol, you need to have successfully achieved your core counselling training and to be an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling Society (or equivalent).

You’ll cover three components, which will focus on increasing your specialist knowledge and understanding through a combination of tutor led theory, class discussion, reflection, practical exercises, reading lists and comprehensive course notes, providing a varied and inspiring learning environment.

These components are developed to prepare you for further study for the full Level 6 qualification and will focus on:

  • Working with Children and Young People
  • Understanding Young People: Identities and Practicalities
  • Working with Children and Young People: Practice Issues and Processes

Entry Requirements:

  2. National Counselling Society accredited member (or equivalent)

LEVEL 6 DIPLOMA IN COUNSELLING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

THE CHRYSALIS LEVEL 6 DIPLOMA IN COUNSELING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Our 2 Year Level 6 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People (CYP) is a full specialist qualification which gives a training route to apply to join the National Counselling Society’s specialist Children and Young People’s Therapist Accredited Register, thus enhancing employment opportunities to work in this area.

The course is listed on the Ofqual Regulated Qualifications Framework at Level 6 (ref 603/7500/0) and is validated by The Prince’s Trust Qualifications.

You need to have successfully graduated from the Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People which is the first year of this course. You cannot enrol directly onto Level 6.

During this second year, your training will be focused on gaining practical experience through your sourcing a supervised placement in a specialist CYP agency, and on preparing and writing your Dissertation.

You’ll need to accrue 100 client hours working with CYP. As you are already qualified and registered as a counsellor, this work can be for up to 6 hours a week, either paid or voluntary. Due to the nature of this work, the majority of client hours must be gained in the room.

Your 10,000 – 12,000 word dissertation, academically supervised, will be a Clinical Case study focusing on your work on placement. This is to be submitted at the end of the course.

This work will be supported by 120 guided learning hours made up of part time classes both in the room at weekends and online weekday evenings, self-directed learning groups and individual academic supervision sessions. You will be given comprehensive supporting materials such as course notes, articles and reference lists.

This course prepares you to undertake clinical practice with CYP, to be able to observe and evaluate your own practice, to understand the research process and to undertake a full clinical case study.

Entry Requirements:

  1. Graduation from the Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People.
  2. National Counselling Society accredited member (or equivalent)

STUDENTS MENTIONS

Don't take our word for it, listen to our graduates. Read testimonials from past Chrysalis graduates of our hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and counselling courses.

“Getting OFQUAL qualifications means for me these are properly recognised courses, not just privately awarded certificates. The QCF means I can use these qualifications in lots of ways.”

John HardyChrysalis Student

"As a former health professional, I was accepted, last year, to do a Degree in Counselling before realising the impact of the cost of the enormous Fees attached! This lead to my search for related course providers, hence Chrysalis, offering such value. Amazed & wishing I had been introduced to Hypnotherapy earlier as now it completely consumes me."

Mary AnneChrysalis Student

“I wanted to join the National Hypnotherapy Society, as it’s the only hypnotherapy organisation with a register approved by the Professional Standards Authority. I also want to train as a counsellor later on and I want my hypnotherapy training to count as part of that.”

Debbie StewartChrysalis Student

“In the current economic climate, I decided to take the advice of my friends and retrained in a recession”
