Gaga hits back at eating disorder glamorization claims
Lady Gaga has hit back against claims she glamorized eating disorders during one of her stage performances, according to entertainmentwise.com.
Critics, including fellow popstar, Demi Lovato, made the claim after artist Millie Brown vomited green liquid on the star during her appearance at the South by Southwest Festival.
After hearing about the incident, Lovato tweeted to her fans: "Sad. As if we didn't have enough people glamorizing eating disorders already. Bottom line, it's not 'cool' or 'artsy' at all."
However Gaga has claimed that the stunt had nothing to do with eating disorders and was in fact just "artistic expression".
She said, according to ibtimes.co.uk: "I am very supportive of Demi's struggle and her recovery as well as the recovery of anyone who is suffering from that. But this performance had absolutely nothing to do with any eating disorder, and we never intended for it to be taken that way."
The singer even admitted that she has battled issues with eating disorders for the last ten years. She claimed that she takes the issue extremely seriously, however stands by the message of "rage and pain", that she was trying to convey through the performance.
The latest statistics from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence suggest that 1.6 million people in the UK currently suffer from an eating disorder.
