Anxiety Information Sessions Becoming Available at Hawick, Scottish Borders

It has been estimated that somewhere between 30-80% of patients who have consulted a physician actually have presented with symptoms that have no physical basis. NHS borders have considered this and are running an event to provide strategies and tips about coping more effectively.

An NHS spokesperson has told a local newspaper that ‘we all worry about our health from time to time. Sometimes this can lead us to improve our lifestyle, for example giving up smoking or eating more healthily. Health anxiety can become a problem when it gets in the way of our everyday lives, even though there can be no reason to think anything is seriously wrong.

The hour long session that has been proposed is not group therapy. People aren’t going to be except to discuss any personal circumstances. The organisers will encourage individuals to contact their GPs should they feel they need more appropriate, one-to-one support.
